About Us

The Alternative Board (TAB) organizes and facilitates peer advisory board meetings of owners, CEO's and presidents of privately owned companies and provides them with private coaching sessions. We also offer a variety of optional strategic leadership support services. You get results, not theory.

TAB was established in 1990 by Allen Fishman. This was accomplished after he guided his organization from a private to a publicly-held company. Once his company went public, Fishman found that the business advice, ideas and motivation from his board of directors – was guidance that was lacking for owners of privately held businesses. Therefore, he founded The Alternative Board. Today there are hundreds of TAB franchisees around the world.

TAB West Michigan was founded in Grand Rapids Michigan in 2002 and is owned by Carol A. Crawford, a TAB Certified Facilitator/Coach. TAB West Michigan currently has four TAB Certified Facilitators/Coaches, all business leaders with at least 20 years of top level management experience. TAB West Michigan Boards are primarily operating in Kent and Ottawa Counties, with more starting this year in other West Michigan cities.
